Most monsoon breakdowns are preventable with a quick check before the rains settle in.
Before the season
Replace wiper blades that streak or chatter.
Check tyre tread depth — at least 2 mm, ideally 3 mm for wet grip.
Test all lights, including fog lamps and hazard lights.
Clear the sunroof and door drain holes.
On flooded roads
Never restart an engine that stalls in water. Water drawn into the cylinders can bend connecting rods — an expensive repair most policies exclude unless you have engine-protect cover.
After driving through water
Dry the brakes by pressing the pedal gently while driving slowly, and get the underbody checked if water reached the doors.
